At Koala Living, our story began with a feeling, one of deep care. Not just for design, but for the people who welcome our pieces into their homes, and for the world that provides the materials we shape into something lasting.
Our journey didn’t begin with bold declarations. It began quietly, with thoughtful choices made behind the scenes. A shift here, an improvement there. Each one is born from the belief that how we do things matters just as much as what we make. Over time, these small changes grew into a larger promise: to honour beauty, purpose, and responsibility in every part of our work.

And because we believe in connection as much as creation, we have partnered with Your Product Passport (YPP). Now, each piece comes with a story. Where did it come from? What is it made of? How it was brought to life. It’s more than transparency, it’s an invitation to be part of something meaningful. A chance to know your furniture in a way that goes beyond the surface, and to feel proud of what you bring into your home.

WHAT IS OEKO‑TEX® CERTIFIED: OEKO‑TEX® certification refers to a globally recognised system that tests textiles for harmful substances. Developed by independent research and test institutes, it ensures that every component of a certified product from fabric and thread to buttons and zippers is safe for human use. OEKO‑TEX® Standard 100 is one of the best-known labels worldwide for textiles tested for harmful substances, offering trust and transparency to consumers.
GOALS OF OEKO‑TEX® CERTIFICATION: The goal of OEKO‑TEX® certification is to protect human health by ensuring that textile products are free from harmful levels of over 100 regulated and non-regulated substances. It also supports sustainable and socially responsible manufacturing processes, promoting safer products and a healthier planet.
HOW KOALA LIVING PRACTICES OEKO‑TEX® CERTIFICATION: Koala Living follows OEKO‑TEX® regulations by carefully selecting materials and chemicals that are safe for customers and environmentally friendly. This commitment ensures that our products meet safety standards, providing peace of mind to customers, while also promoting sustainability and minimising environmental impact.

WHAT IS FSC CERTIFIED: FSC refers to Forest Stewardship Council certification and it is a global standard for sustainable forest management. It ensures that products, such as wood and paper, come from responsibly managed forests that environmentally sound and socially beneficial.
GOALS OF FSC CERTIFICATION: The goal of FSC certification is to promote responsible forest management worldwide. It aims to protect the environment, support the well-being of communities, and ensure the economic viability of forest industries.
HOW KOALA LIVING PRACTICES FSC CERTIFICATION: Koala Living follows FSC certification by carefully choosing materials that meet strict environmental standards, ensuring our products are both high-quality and eco-friendly. We work with trusted suppliers to support ethical forestry and maintain transparency in our sourcing. Every piece we create reflects our commitment to sustainability and protecting forests for future generations.

As our journey unfolded, so did our responsibility to the materials we bring into your home. In 2024, we took another heartfelt step by introducing FSC® and REACH-certified products. These aren’t just labels. They represent our promise to choose what’s right: ethically sourced timber, safe finishes for families and the environment, and partnerships with suppliers who share our values. To us, true beauty begins with integrity.
CUTTING OUT THE PAPER TRAIL
In 2022, we took a meaningful step by introducing paperless invoicing across all 17 of our galleries. A small change on the surface, but a powerful one beneath it, cutting down waste, saving energy, and eliminating the chemicals used in traditional printing. It was the first outward sign of our commitment to doing better.
ECO-FRIENDLY WAREHOUSE PRACTICES
That spirit carried into our warehouses, where sustainability became part of the everyday rhythm. As our team grew and our operations expanded, we reached a turning point in 2024. With the opening of our new warehouse and head office, we made a purposeful investment in the future, installing solar panels to power our work with clean, renewable energy.
That decision wasn’t just about progress; it was about principle. In just one year, we generated 111.3 MWh of solar energy, reducing our carbon footprint by 151.68 tons of CO₂. That’s the same as saving over 61 tons of coal, or planting more than 8,280 trees. Every forklift now runs on lithium batteries, charged by the sun. Our pallets are reused and repaired, not tossed away. Because every choice, no matter how small, can carry real meaning.

At Koala Living, our commitment to sustainability is reflected in every aspect of our operations, and we are dedicated to continuing this journey. From ethically sourced materials and FSC and REACH certified products to our innovative initiatives like the Product Passport (YPP) and paperless invoicing, we are actively working to create a positive impact. By integrating renewable energy, reducing waste, and prioritizing environmentally responsible manufacturing practices, we are leading the way in sustainable furniture design. Our new solar panels at the warehouse, energy-efficient practices, and focus on creating timeless, high-quality products are steps we are taking to ensure a greener future. We are proud of the progress we have made, and we will continue to drive sustainability through innovation, transparency, and a deep respect for the environment.
Koala Living acknowledges the traditional owners and custodians of country throughout Australia and their connections to land, sea and community. We acknowledge the Bunurong people, on whose lands our head office is located, as well as all other First Nation Countries on which we operate our business across. We would also like to pay respect to their Elders, past, present and emerging and extend that respect to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples today.
